Health state of Stavropol resident Remzi Memetov deteriorates in penal colony

The health state of Remzi Memetov, who is convicted for participation in the “Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami”* organization and who serves his sentence in a penal colony in the Stavropol Territory, has deteriorated. Remzi Memetov needs medical treatment, his spouse says.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on December 24, 2018, Remzi Memetov was sentenced to eight years and nine months of imprisonment in the case on participation in the “Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami”* organization and preparation for the seizure of power.

Remzi Memetov suffers from high blood pressure and needs medical treatment, emphasizes his wife Elmira Memetova. According to the woman, her husband sees double and feels constantly dizzy, the “OVD Info”** reports.

The administration of the penal colony accepted the application to call a medical officer, noted the “Crimean Solidarity” public organization.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported about other sentences to Crimean Tatars in the “Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami”* case. So, in September 2020, in Rostov-on-Don, a military court sentenced seven defendants in the “Bakhchisarai” case of the “Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami”* to long terms of imprisonment and acquitted Ernes Ametov, one of the defendants. In December 2022, the court re-considered the Ernes Ametov’s case and sentenced him to 11 years of imprisonment.

*An international pan-Islamist and fundamentalist political organization whose stated aim is the re-establishment of the Islamic caliphate. In 2003, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation recognized “Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami” as a terrorist organization and banned its activities.
