Court in Grozny began considering Zhuravel’s case on third attempt

The court in Grozny interrogated two witnesses in the case against Nikita Zhuravel, who faces imprisonment for burning the Koran. During the trial, he asked Muslims for forgiveness for his actions. The trial was then postponed for the third time due to the absence of the Grozny imams, recognized as victims in the case.

The Visaitovsky District Court of Grozny today postponed the hearing in the case of Nikita Zhuravel to November 16 due to the absence of two prosecution witnesses and victims, 13 imams of Grozny mosques, TASS reported.

During today's trial, two witnesses were questioned , the imam of the Volgograd Cathedral Mosque Ilyas Bektemirov, and journalist Ivan Bogdanov, who discovered the video on the Telegram channel.

Zhuravel himself apologized for his actions to Muslims. “During my detention, I read the Koran, studied it... in order to understand how much I offended the feelings of believers <...>. My act is terrible and has no justification,” RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
