Law enforcers ignore reports of murder threats to rights defender Alamov

The "Team against Torture" (TaT)* has informed Ingush authorities of about the threat to kill Magomed Alamov, a human rights defender, but there was no reaction to this. Marina Yandieva, who fled from domestic violence and was given a lift by Alamov, has asked the Russian Ombudsperson to intervene in the situation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that relatives of the 28-year-old Marina Yandieva are threatening to kill Magomed Alamov, accusing him of organizing Marina's escape. Alamov did not know about the situation, the TaT* asserts, adding that Magomed Alamov himself came to the house of Marina's relatives. "It is important to note that he was not held by force – he came to the house of the girl's relatives of his own free will. He wanted to explain that he hadn't abducted her and in general knew little about her. However, they began threatening him there," the TaT* has stated.

In a video posted in the Telegram channel of the SK SOS Crisis Group**, Marina Yandieva said that her family, while seeking to return her, uses manipulations: they've put her on the wanted list and actually "took hostage" of the person who had simply given her a lift.

In 2016, she tried to escape to Moscow, but she was tracked down, beaten up and returned home. After this, Marina lived in isolation and without communication means for three years; and her relatives fabricated a certificate about her mental disorder and threatened her with an "honour killing."

*The "Team against Torture" (TaT, formerly the "Committee against Torture" – CaT) was created by the lawyers who had earlier worked for the CaT, which was included into the register of the NCOs performing the functions of foreign agents.

**Included by the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) into the register of foreign agents.
