Putin and Kadyrov meet amid scandal with beating of Zhuravel

Russian President Vladimir Putin invited Ramzan Kadyrov to discuss social and economic issues, but the leader of Chechnya claimed that there were no problems in the republic. Ramzan Kadyrov has focused on the special military operation in Ukraine, saying that if the President Putin’s order is not followed, “we will not live in this state” and that Chechnya is the only region where Vladimir Putin is supported by the entire population. The transcript of a part of the conversation does not mention the scandal with Ramzan Kadyrov posting of a video in which his son beat a young man arrested in a case on burning Koran.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Ramzan Kadyrov posted a video of the beating of Nikita Zhuravel and praised his son for that action. Close associates of the leader Chechnya approved the above action, and a number of human rights defenders, including the Russian Ombudsperson, spoke negatively about it.

As follows from the video of the meeting of Vladimir Putin and Ramzan Kadyrov posted on the Kremlin’s Telegram channel, President Putin noted the merits of the fighters from Chechnya and conveyed greetings to the militaries and their families.

Earlier, Vladimir Putin met the leader of Chechnya after the scandal with the detention of Zarema Musaeva and threats to the Yangulbaev family, as well as a motion for the resignation of the leader of Chechnya. Analysts pointed out then that the meeting looked like an attempt by the Kremlin to gently correct the leader of the region, but that would not affect the stability of the Ramzan Kadyrov’s positions.

On September 18 and 19, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov refused to comment on the information about the alleged hospitalization of Ramzan Kadyrov.

On September 20, Ramzan Kadyrov released a video of his visit to a Moscow hospital, explaining that his uncle was being treated there and calling himself “alive and healthy.”

From the beginning of 2019 to the middle of 2020, Ramzan Kadyrov was ill four times, and until 2019, no information about the ailments of the leader of Chechnya did reach the media, even at the level of rumours.
