After solidarity picket with Navalny*, Makhachkala resident fined for discrediting Russian Army

The resident of Makhachkala, who held a solo picket on the third anniversary of Navalny's* poisoning, was found guilty of discrediting Russian militaries.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 20, actions were held in Russian cities and abroad to mark the third anniversary of the poisoning of Alexei Navalny*.

The Leninsky District Court of Makhachkala has found Ilyas Gamzaev, a local resident, who held a picket in support of Navalny*, guilty of discrediting Russian militaries, the “Kavkaz.Realii”** project has reported. According to the court, on August 20, Gamzaev went to a solo action with a poster demanding the release of Navalny* and containing a pacifist appeal.

In court, Gamzaev pleaded guilty; and the judge imposed a fine of 15,000 roubles on him – half as much as provided for by the respective article. "Given the personality of Gamzaev and his property status, namely, the absence of a permanent job, his confession of guilt, and the circumstances of his offense ... I find it possible to impose an administrative penalty below the lowest limit," the judge’s ruling says.

*Navalny's offices are recognized as extremist organizations and banned in Russia. Alexei Navalny is a founder of the Anti-Corruption Foundation (known as FBK), an NCO that is included by the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) into the register of NCOs performing functions of a foreign agent. The NCO is also recognized by a court as extremist and banned in the territory of Russia.
