Kuban deputy fined for discrediting Russian Army

A court in the Krasnodar Territory (also known as Kuban by the name of the main river) has fined Sergey Detochkin, a local deputy, treating his statements made at the funeral of a mobilized military serviceman as discrediting the Russian Army. The deputy called himself a victim of a slander.

This is the first publicly known case in Southern Russia of suing a deputy (local parliamentarian) under an article about discrediting Russian militaries. Officials from the local administration have slandered Sergey, the "Kavkaz.Realii"* project reports.

According to the court ruling, on May 16, at the cemetery, during a farewell to the mobilized man who perished in the special military operation (SMO), Sergey Detochkin "in his public speech used appeals aimed at discrediting" the Russian Army.

Mr Detochkin has refused to plead guilty. "He has explained that his statements were paraphrased; he believes that the applicant is settling scores with him in this way, since Detochkin and his colleagues had applied to the prosecutor's office on the fact of violations in the electoral process, where the applicant against him was a participant," the court ruling says.
