Rights defenders comment on sending "Akhmat" to Moscow during rebellion

The engagement of the Chechen "Akhmat" units to suppress the rebellion launched by Evgeny Prigozhin, the head of the "Wagner" Private Military Company (PMC), has shown the Kremlin's special attitude towards Kadyrov people, human rights defenders have noted.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 23, Prigozhin accused the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) of shelling the PMC's rear positions. On June 24, military machines appeared in Rostov-on-Don near the command building of the Southern Military District. A criminal case was opened against Prigozhin for incitement to an armed rebellion. Prigozhin announced that he had taken control of military facilities in Rostov-on-Don. After his negotiations with President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, the "Wagner" fighters left for their field camps.

On June 24, units of the "Akhmat" special fighters and of the "Sever(North)-Akhmat" special regiment were sent from the special military operation (SMO) zone to the Rostov Region to suppress Prigozhin's rebellion. Besides, 3000 fighters from the regiments of the "Rosgvardiya" (Russian National Guard) troops and units from Chechnya were sent to Moscow.

The involvement of Kadyrov's law enforcers to counter the "Wagner" fighters in the Rostov and Moscow Regions has shown a special attitude towards them as the most loyal to the Kremlin, Ruslan Kutaev, President of the Assembly of Caucasian Nations, is sure.

"Perhaps, there are no other structures more loyal to Putin in Russia," he said.

"The involvement of them has shown that the Kremlin trusts these units and will use them in the most difficult situations," Svetlana Gannushkina*, the head of the "Civic Assistance" Committee*, has agreed.

Each time, Chechen law enforcers prove their readiness to defend Putin to the end, she has added.

Let us remind you that on June 25, Ramzan Kadyrov said that the reason for Prigozhin's rebellion was in his ambitions and resentment due to his failed business deals. Meanwhile, earlier Kadyrov had supported Prigozhin.
