In March 2023, three people perished in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

In March 2023, during the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus, three people perished and two others were wounded. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from open sources.

On March 28, two law enforcers were wounded in an attack on the road-and-patrol (DPS) traffic police post located on the Ingush-North-Ossetian border. The branch for Ingushetia of the Russian FSB (Federal Security Service) reported that four residents of Ingushetia – Mikail Moshkhoev, Ramazan Eldiev, Amir Bokov and Amirkhan Gurazhev – were announced wanted in connection with plotting terror acts. Sources said that they were suspected of involvement in the attack on the above DPS post; and Eldiev was found dead.

The attack was committed on the border of the two republics, in the territory of North Ossetia. Ingush policemen were on duty at the post at that time; they were wounded.

At night on March 29, sources reported an attack on the ROVD (District Interior Division) post in Gudermes, and two people were killed. The head of Chechnya said that law enforcers had blocked two militants who refused to surrender, but threw a grenade and were killed. The Chechen branch of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) reported that relatives, residents of Gudermes, born in 1963 and 1989, perished. Later, it became known that the casualties were Ruslan Elkhadjiev and Zelim Elkhadjiev, Ruslan's sister's son.

The last time victims of the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus were recorded in February 2023. Then, four alleged militants were killed.

The given statistics cannot accurately reflect the number of victims. Not all the data is included into news bulletins. It is not always possible to check how true the statements of law enforcement bodies are; and new data on the events that happened in the reporting period become known sometimes after the publication of statistics on the "Caucasian Knot".

In other regions of Northern Caucasus, which include Dagestan, Stavropol Territory, Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkessia, no armed incidents or casualties were recorded in February 2023.
