Journalist Alipat Sultanbegova fined for discrediting Russian army

In Krasnodar, a court recognized Alipat Sultanbegova’s post on the social media as discrediting the Russian Armed Forces and obliged her to pay a fine. Alipat Sultanbegova, who stays abroad now, intends to appeal against the court’s decision.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that an investigator chose a pre-trial restriction measure in the form of a written recognizance not to leave the country for journalist and activist Alipat Sultanbegova in the criminal case on discrediting the Russian Armed Forces. In May, the activist managed to leave Russia after she received a notification that a criminal case had been instituted against her for discrediting the Russian Armed Forces.

In April, the police detained Alipat Sultanbegova twice. The reason for drawing up a protocol under the article on discrediting the Russian Armed Forces was Alipat Sultanbegova’s post on Instagram* containing a photo of a girl with a pacifist drawing in her hands, the “Sota.Vision” reports.

“I don’t consider myself guilty. Like the girl, whose drawing I posted,” said Alipat Sultanbegova as quoted by the “Sota.Vision”.

On May 30, it became known that law enforcers conducted searches and seized computers and mobile phones from three residents of Krasnodar who communicated with Alipat Sultanbegova. According to the journalist, all three persons were involved in her criminal case as witnesses.

*On March 21, 2022, the Tverskoi Court of Moscow banned the activities in Russia of the Meta Company, owning the Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, in connection with extremist activities.
