Mobilized person convicted in Novocherkassk for service evasion

A court in Novocherkassk has sentenced Dmitry Lykov, a mobilized person, to two years in colony, finding him guilty of leaving the unit without permission.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 24, 2022, after the announcement of the partial mobilization in Russia, a part of the article on the unauthorized abandonment of a military unit or place of service during the period of mobilization was introduced into the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, providing for up to seven years of freedom deprivation.

After the announcement of the partial mobilization, contract servicemen lost the opportunity to break their contracts before the expiration date. The lawsuits lodged by the militaries, who are seeking dismissal due to the expiration of their contracts, would not be satisfied by courts in Southern Russia.

The Novocherkassk Garrison Military Court has found Dmitry Lykov guilty of leaving the unit without permission and sentenced him to two years in colony, and also stripped him of the rank of a private, the "Kavkaz.Realii"* project reports.

On October 1, 2022, Lykov was mobilized and sent to a military unit in the Rostov Region. From November 11, he was in the zone of the special military operation (SMO); and on December 22, 2022, he left his unit and went home. On January 11, he was detained by the military police.

At the trial, Lykov has fully pleaded guilty and "repented of his deed."
