Musaeva’s defence claims falsification of evidence in her case

The study of nail sections in Zarema Musaeva’s case was accompanied by gross violations and suggests that the samples were substituted, the defence has claimed in court.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on December 1, Zarema Musaeva completely denied the accusations and confirmed her previous testimony, which she had given in the first days after her kidnapping. On February 2, the court extended the arrest of Zarema Musaeva until May 12. In February, the defendant reported that in a detention facility in Chechnya, she began to suffer from deterioration of her eyesight.

Zarema Musaeva, whose case has been considered by the court in Grozny since June 2022, is accused of assaulting a law enforcer and is being charged with fraud.

Advocates Alexander Savin and Alexander Nemov requested the court to exclude the results of one of the examinations from the evidence in the case. It was about the study of sections of nails, under which, according to the conclusions of experts, there were traces of the blood of the injured law enforcer.

The defenders of Zarema Musaeva drew attention to serious procedural violations committed when taking sections of the defendant’s nails. In the case file, there is “no connection between the nail sections taken from Zarema Musaeva and those that eventually ended up for the study,” the “Team Against Torture”* reported on its Telegram channel.

According to the defence’s claim, the above evidence was falsified to confirm the investigators’ version. However, the court dismissed the defence’s motion.

*The “Team Against Torture” (formerly the “Committee Against Torture”) was created by lawyers who previously worked for the “Committee Against Torture” (CaT), which was included in the register of NCOs performing the functions of foreign agents.
