Contract soldier from Volgograd faces threats amid litigation for medical treatment

A spouse of a contract soldier from Volgograd, who is seeking a re-passing of the medical commission through the court, complains that commanders of her husband’s military unit threatened him with opening a criminal case. Civilian doctors diagnosed the military man with a neurological disease.

On March 24, a questioning was held at the Volgograd Garrison Military Court on the claim filed by contract soldier Alexei, demanding to suspend the decision to call him up for the military service until he re-passed the military medical commission. The court postponed the hearings twice, but the vacation of the Volgograd resident ends, and he may be sent back to Ukraine.

On March 2, Anna, the spouse of the 46-year-old participant in the special military operation, filed a lawsuit demanding to dismiss her husband from the military service and provide him with psychiatric treatment. Military medical officers declared the man fit for the military service, while civilian doctors recorded that he needed medical treatment.

The woman complained that her husband “couldn’t get a definitive diagnosis from a psychiatrist.”

“All psychiatrists detect his suicidal tendencies ... He can barely talk, barely walk. Over the past month, his condition has worsened, and his depression has intensified. The neurologist believes that these are the consequences of a severe concussion,” Anna, the spouse of Alexei, said.

Alexei served his military service in Chechnya in 1995-1996. According to his wife, after the military service, the man suffered from mental disorders.

Olga Miroedova, who represents the interests of the plaintiff, the head of the human rights organization “Spravedlivost” (Fairness), reports that her client has been diagnosed with a new neurological disease, an irreversible brain damage, “which is the reason for transferring Alexei to the group of persons unfit for the military service.”
