Court of Cassation cancels verdict in case on Tskaev’s death

The Fifth Court of Cassation sent for a new trial the case on the death of Vladimir Tskaev, who died after being interrogated by the police.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on November 8, 2022, Spartak Buzoev and Alan Bigaev, sentenced in the case on the death of Vladimir Tskaev, a resident of Vladikavkaz, who died after being tortured by the police, were released. Users of social media considered unfair the decision of the court on conditional early relief (CER) for the convicted law enforcers. Zemfira Tskaeva, a widow of deceased Vladimir Tskaev, said that the court’s decision on the CER would be challenged.

In April 2022, the Supreme Court (SC) of North Ossetia reduced the sentences of six policemen. Four of them were released from punishment due to the statute of limitations, and two others had their sentences reduced.

The SC cancelled the decisions of the first instance court in the case on Vladimir Tskaev’s death and returned it for a new trial, the “KrylyaTV” (WingsTV) Telegram channel reported.

The case on Vladimir Tskaev’s death went to court on May 31, 2022. The trial was repeatedly postponed due to complaints filed by convicts and lawyers.

The “Caucasian Knot” has also reported that Vladimir Tskaev’s family demanded 15 million roubles from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) as compensation for moral damage, but lawyers considered the chances of fair compensation minimal.

Vladimir Tskaev died after being interrogated at the Vladikavkaz police department on the night of November 1, 2015. His son was 11 years old at that time, and his daughter was eight. Zemfira Tskaeva was fighting for a fair punishment for those who were guilty of the death of her husband and deprived her children of their father.
