Ingush residents honour memory of compatriots perished during years of deportation

In Nazran, a prayer in memory of those who died during the years of the deportation ordered by Stalin was read out by the elders and the leader of the republic. Believers were reading prayers in the mosques of the republic to pay tribute to the memory of those who perished during the years of the deportation and dispensing sadaqa (charity) to the poor and large families.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in 2021, the events on the occasion of the anniversary of the deportation of the Vainakh people and the celebration of February 23 in Ingushetia were separated in time and took place in different places, but top-ranking officials of the republic mentioned the date at the mourning meeting.

A commemorative event with the participation of Ingush leader Makhmud-Ali Kalimatov, elders, and government officials took place at the “Memorial of Memory and Glory” in Nazran near the “Nine Towers” complex in Nazran, erected in memory of the victims of repression and deportation of peoples, the newspaper “Ingushetia” reports. The people who gathered for the event prayed for the victims of the Stalin’s arbitrariness.

On February 23, mosques hold religious ceremonies dedicated to the memory of the victims of the deportation, the press service for the leader of the republic reports on its official website.

Kharon Khamkhoev, the imam of the mosque in the village of Alkun, announced that already on February 19, believers were reading prayers in the mosques of the Sunzha District to pay tribute to the memory of compatriots who died during the deportation and dispensing sadaqa (charity) to the poor and large families.

About 120,000 state security officers took part in the deportation of the Vainakh people. The eviction of people was accompanied by executions of civilians, including elderly women and people with disabilities, but no one was punished.
