Djumaev, native of Chechnya, placed into dungeon for second time in a month

Said-Mukhammad Djumaev, a native of Chechnya, sentenced to five years in prison for using violence against law enforcers, has been placed into the dungeon (punishment cell) for the second time within a month.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 31, it became known that Djumaev had been transferred to the punishment cell (also known as ShIZO). His relatives believe that the colony staff used this measure deliberately in order to disrupt his meeting with his mother.

In the video posted in social media in January 2021, Mikail Markhiev, better known by his former name Said-Mukhammad Djumaev, fights off law enforcers' truncheons. Under their blows, he retreated to the protesters, defending himself with his hands and by swinging his leg. Then he was knocked down to the asphalt; and Djumaev disappeared into the crowd. According to the prosecution, at a rally in support of Alexei Navalny*, Djumaev struck two OMON (riot police) fighters and a policeman.

After leaving the ShIZO, Djumaev managed to meet his mother, his aunt reported in the Instagram**. According to her story, the disciplinary commission of the colony decided, immediately after his release from the ShIZO, to transfer him to strict custody conditions (SCC). "Being under the SCC excludes the possibility of the conditional early relief (CER) ... Their main argument was that he is a political prisoner; and this is worse than killing a person," Djumaev's aunt believes.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Ramzan Kadyrov criticized Djumaev, stating that he had harmed the people of Chechnya and acted unmanly by hiding from law enforcers after the rally.

*Alexei Navalny is a founder of the Anti-Corruption Foundation (known as FBK), an NCO that is included by the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) in the register of NCOs performing functions of a foreign agent. The NCO is also recognized by a court as extremist and banned in Russia. Navalny’s* offices are recognized as extremist organizations, and their activities are terminated by a court’s decision. On January 25, the “Rosfinmonitoring” (the Russian Federal Agency for Financial Monitoring) included Alexei Navalny in the register of extremists and terrorists.
