Prosecutor to obtain new examination of Dagestani journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev’s articles

A public prosecutor did not agree with the experts’ conclusions, which strengthened the defence’s version stating that Abdulmumin Gadjiev was not guilty, and convinced the court to order an additional examination of the journalist’s articles, the Human Rights Protection Centre “Memorial” reported.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on January 12, an official from the forensic examination centre of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) confirmed the conclusions of his colleagues who found no signs of crime in Abdulmumin Gadjiev’s posts. Earlier, the examination found that the journalist’s articles did not contain any signs of inducement to transfer money to a charitable foundation, to overthrow the authorities or any signs of propaganda of the ideas of terrorist organizations.

The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don ordered an additional psychological and linguistic examination of the Abdulmumin Gadjiev’s articles, the Human Rights Protection Centre “Memorial” reported.

The public prosecutor said that the experts did not answer the questions about whether Abdulmumin Gadjiev was covering the activities of preacher Israil Akhmednabiev “in order to influence Muslims and encourage them to transfer money to the preacher’s foundation” and whether Abdulmumin Gadjiev promoted the ideas of abandoning a secular lifestyle and creating a theocratic state.

The court also granted the public prosecutor’s request to attach to the journalist’s case the documents in the case against Zainudin Bammatgereev, wanted for participation in the “Islamic State” (IS, a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court, – note of the “Caucasian Knot”).

According to the investigators’ version, Israil Akhmednabiev and his associates recruited Zainudin Bammatgereev, and in 2015, he handed over to a certain “Kemal from Moscow” the money for the preacher. Then Zainudin Bammatgereev left for Syria, and there he took part in battles against the government troops.
