Dagestan SC cancels fine imposed on local resident for discrediting army

Nazhmudin Abdurakhmanov, a resident of Khasavyurt, has challenged at the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan the fine of 40,000 roubles imposed on him for his pacifist posts in social networks. The SC has cancelled the fine, as it was imposed after the expiry of the deadline for bringing the man to administrative responsibility.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 4, 2022, Russia introduced responsibility for discrediting the Russian Armed Forces, after which residents of Russia began to be prosecuted under this administrative article. Thus, on January 8, it became known that the court fined Krymsoltan Mollaev, a resident of Dagestan, after finding his words that he would not allow his children to serve in the army as discrediting Russian militaries.

Abdurakhmanov was fined by 40,000 roubles in September 2022 for his pacifist posts in the "Odnoklassniki" social network, the "Kavkaz.Realii"* project writes.

The resolution of the Dagestani SC notes that the statute of limitations for bringing a person to responsibility for an administrative offense under the article on discrediting the army is three months. The SC has noted that the term for bringing Abdurakhmanov to justice had expired by the time the proceedings already began.
