Chechen driver publicly reprimanded for dangerous driving

A video depicting a young man being reprimanded at a police station has posted on social media. The resident of the Gudermes District grossly violated the road traffic regulations, the law enforcement bodies reported.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Chechen law enforcers regularly reprimand local residents on various occasions and post videos of those conversations on social media. A person may be reprimanded for a violation of the road traffic regulations, the use of alcohol or drugs, practicing witchcraft, and even wearing a niqab, that is, both for actual offenses and actions that the Chechen authorities consider wrong. In December 2022, in the Kurchaloi District, law enforcers detained and reprimanded a young man who violated the road traffic regulations.

A feature of preventive conversations in Chechnya is the desire to humiliate violators, human rights defender Svetlana Gannushkina points out. Lawyer Yevgeny Chernousov notes that law enforcers may make public the videos of such conversations only with the consent of the persons depicted in them.

The video recording of the preventive conversation with law enforcers was posted in the “ChP/Chechnya” public account on Instagram*.

Residents of Chechnya are regularly subjected to reprimands and publicly apologize for various misdeeds and for criticizing the authorities.
