Makhachkala townspeople complained about emergency services' inaction

In Makhachkala, for more than 24 hours, municipal services fail to react to power and water supply outages, residents of the city have complained. The problems of public utilities in Dagestan are of a systemic nature, in this situation, emergency appeals are useless, said Ziyaudin Uvaisov, the head of the "ZhKKh Monitor" (Monitor of Housing and Public Utilities).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that long-term power and gas outages have repeatedly become a reason for protests in Dagestan. Thus, on January 9, in the village of Avadan, Dokuzparin District, local residents tried to block the highway, demanding to solve their problems with gas supply. On December 23, 2022, residents of the Bammat micro-district blocked traffic along the Makhachkala-Astrakhan highway due to a three-day power outage.

Residents of Makhachkala have faced everyday difficulties caused by power and water supply interruptions; while appeals to public utilities, according to their stories, proved to be fruitless.

"In Khurshilov Street, there's no electricity and water since last night. Emergency services wouldn't respond to calls," said Ismail, a resident of a private house. He has noted that there are five people in his family, elderly ones among them.

"The central heating doesn't work; it is very cold. We have two children, they suffer from cold. No one reacts to appeals to public utilities," Sergey, a resident of Makhachkala, has complained.

There are six members in Patimat's family. According to her story, there has been no electricity and gas in the house since January 11. The central heating was also turned off, which made the apartment very cold.

Ziyaudin Uvaisov, the head of the above "ZhKKh Monitor", has noted that this winter, same as in previous years, there is a "difficult situation" in the public utilities sector in Dagestan.
