Court refuses to release Zarema Musaeva

Despite the medical documents about the deterioration of her health condition, the Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya has upheld the extension of the arrest of Zarema Musaeva.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 1, 2022, at a session of a Grozny court, Musaeva completely denied the charges and confirmed her previous testimony, which she had given in the first days after her abduction.

Zarema Musaeva is accused of assaulting a law enforcer and figures under a fraud case. By extending her arrest, the SC has agreed with the investigators' unjustified arguments that the sick woman could escape from the republic, her son, Abubakar Yangulbaev, has pointed out.

The Chechen SC has considered a complaint against the extension of Musaeva's arrest, the "Kavkaz.Realii"* project reports with reference to Konstantin Gusev, a lawyer of the "Team Against Torture"**.

The defence has claimed that there's no point in keeping a person with no criminal record, who is chronically ill, in custody; but the SC has extended her arrest and ignored the documents about the deterioration of Musaeva's health condition. The prosecutor insisted that Musaeva should stay under arrest.

Let us remind you that after Musaeva's detention, Ramzan Kadyrov accused the Yangulbaevs of organizing a terrorist network. On February 1, 2022, Adam Delimkhanov, a Kadyrov's adviser and a State Duma MP, threatened to execute the Yangulbaev family.
