Two persons killed in shootout with law enforcers in Nalchik, sources report

On December 26, a shootout took place in a forest on the outskirts of Nalchik, during which two previously convicted residents of Kabardino-Balkaria, suspected of plotting an explosion in a military registration and enlistment office, were killed, the media and Telegram channels reported with reference to sources in the law enforcement bodies.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on October 1, the Department for the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the “Rosgvardiya” (National Guard of Russia) were shelled in the Prokhladnensky District, and two attackers were killed. The suspects were identified as terrorists plotting an act of sabotage on the railway, and their accomplice was detained, the Russian FSB reported. The report about those killed in a shootout with law enforcers in Kabardino-Balkaria became the first within almost 15 months.

In Kabardino-Balkaria, two men planned to attack the military registration and enlistment office in the city of Chegem, the “Baza” Telegram channel reports. Their detention took place in the forest, the suspects rendered resistance and were killed by return fire, the report says.

The shootout took place on December 26. When the law enforcers tried to identify the suspects, they started shooting at them from firearms, the “Ren TV” Channel reported.

The suspects had earlier criminal records. One of them served his sentence for acts of robbery, banditry, intentional infliction of grievous harm, illegal acquisition and possession of drugs, and illegal acquisition of firearms. The second man also served sentence for acts of robbery, death threats, attempted rape, and acts of banditry, the report says.

The “Shot” Telegram channel gives a different version of the development of events. According to its version, the special forces fighters cordoned off a shelter of two suspects in the forest. The men refused to surrender, began to shoot back, and were killed as a result.
