Journalist Sevrinovsky draws public attention to Abdulmumin Gadjiev’s case

Journalist Vladimir Sevrinovsky released his documentary “Beyond of the Republic” reporting about the criminal prosecution of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an editor of the Dagestani weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft).

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev consider his case a political persecution and regularly hold pickets in Makhachkala in support of him. The protest actions attract less and less attention of passers-by, due to the fact that residents of the republic have to think more and more about their own financial difficulties, emphasizes Magdi Kamalov, the deputy founder of the newspaper “Chernovik”.

Vladimir Sevrinovsky’s film is posted on the “ROMB” YouTube channel.

“Abdulmumin Gadjiev has been in a SIZO (pre-trial prison) for more than three years. He is accused of terrorism … Everyone has united around Abdulmumin Gadjiev, including his associates who want to save him from an unfair accusation and his former opponents who understand that any journalist can find himself in his place, regardless of political views and religion,” the film synopsis says.

Abdulmumin Gadjiev’s story is especially important not because it is “the story of another case of lawlessness,” Vladimir Sevrinovsky explains. According to his version, the story is a “triumph of the human spirit” in it.

The documentary “Beyond the Republic” is not the first film with the participation of Vladimir Sevrinovsky, posted on the “ROMB” YouTube channel. In September 2020, a film about female circumcision in Northern Caucasus, prepared jointly with journalist Svetlana Anokhina, was also posted on the “ROMB” YouTube channel.
