Chechnya: to calm Urus-Martan residents down, authorities resort to elders' reputation

After a brawl of law enforcers in Urus-Martan, police raids, a search for eyewitnesses and threats to send local residents to the special military operation (SMO) zone in Ukraine, authorities gathered the elders, urging them to educate the youth.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 12, it became known that more than 500 law enforcers were involved in the search for the citizens who had witnessed the conflict with the participation of a GIBDD (traffic police) inspector. This was preceded by Ramzan Kadyrov's promise to send all the law enforcers to the city security to whom Urus-Martan townspeople "could express their claims." The sending 500 law enforcers to Urus-Martan to resolve a minor conflict looks like an overreaction of Chechen authorities, the retired law enforcers believe. Local residents have complained about the oppressive atmosphere in Urus-Martan after the incident.

On December 10, a conflict broke out in Urus-Martan of local residents with the above GIBDD inspector. A local man gave him a slap in the face, to which the inspector began shooting at the ground.

The "Grozny" TV Channel has reported that a gathering of elders was held in Urus-Martan, which was attended by local theologians and deputies.

The speakers treated the incident in Urus-Martan as a conflict of young people with the GIBDD inspector, and called on the older generation to conduct educational conversations with young people.

Shamil Kutsaev, the head of the Urus-Martan District, called for educational work with young people, and to explain them the inadmissibility of such actions. The elders and theologians of Urus-Martan have condemned the actions of local residents during the conflict.
