USA imposes sanctions against relatives of Dagestani Senator Suleiman Kerimov

The US Treasury has imposed sanctions against Firuza Kerimova, the wife of billionaire Suleiman Kerimov, the Senator from Dagestan, their daughters Gulnara and Amina, son Said and nephew Nariman Gadjiev. Restrictions have also been introduced against Kerimov's partners.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 15, Karimov came under restrictive measures of the European Union (EU) in connection with the special operation in Ukraine.

The new sanctions cover Nariman Gadjiev, Kerimov's nephew, whom US authorities treat as Kerimov's financial intermediary; Alexander-Walter Studhalter, a Swiss citizen, who, according to the OFAC (US Office of Foreign Assets Control), managed Kerimov's companies; Murat Aliev, the chairman of the board of directors of the "Bonum Capital", whom OFAC calls a former head of a Kerimov's investment company; and Studhalter's sons and eight organizations associated with him.

Besides, the OFAC has blocked eight planes of the "Emperor Aviation" business class airline, which is associated with Kerimov, the "Kommersant" has reported.

Kerimov is known in Dagestan for his charitable projects. In October 2020, he was awarded the title of an honorary Makhachkala citizen. He is also involved in charity activities outside of Dagestan, analysts have noted.
