Kadyrov criticizes exchange of POWs with Ukraine

Ramzan Kadyrov expressed his strong dissatisfaction with the exchange of prisoners of war (POWs), which was organized by the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the FSB. According to the leader of Chechnya, the exchange of POWs took place on Ukrainian terms.

In June, Ramzan Kadyrov denied reports that Ukrainian citizen Yulia Paevskaya was exchanged for Adam Gritsenko, a son of Murad Saidov, the deputy permanent representative of Chechnya in Crimea, who said that his son was still being kept in captivity.

The Russian Ministry of Defence and the FSB did not consult with Ramzan Kadyrov and active participants of the special military operation when organizing an unequal exchange of prisoners of war, follows from the post on the Telegram channel of the leader of Chechnya.

The Russian Ministry of Defence announced that 55 militaries have been returned to Russia and the Donetsk and Lugansk Peoples Republics (DPR and LPR, respectively). Ukraine got back 215 militaries, including commanders and 108 fighters of the Azov* regiment, President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote in Twitter.

*The Supreme Court (SC) of Russia recognized the Ukrainian battalion Azov battalion (its symbols were recognized as extremist and banned) as a terrorist organization and banned its activities in Russia.
