Social media users argue about demands of Paraul residents

Residents of the village of Paraul in the Karabudakhkent District of Dagestan blocked a road with the demand to resolve the problem with the gas supply. Social media users noted that the local authorities should help the villagers. Their opponents argue that owners of greenhouses with their illegal connections to the gas pipelines are to blame.

“People came out in despair and blocked the road because of the inaction of the authorities, since they do not know any other way to achieve justice. The funds were allocated under the state programme for gasification of the Paraul village, which population has been facing a problem with the gas supply for many years. However, some interested persons put up obstacles and do not allow the laying of a new pipe, threaten builders with reprisals, and threaten to burn equipment,” reads the message posted in the “ChP Kavkaz” Telegram channel on September 19.

Authors of the Telegram message call on the competent authorities to investigate the situation.

In their comments under the post, social media users have associated the growth in gas consumption in the region with the development of greenhouse farming. “There was no such a problem two years ago. Now they have built greenhouses, and they want to take gas from our village, but we don’t have enough gas for our own needs,” user arabov909 expressed the indignation. “The greenhouses should be legally connected to the gas pipelines, and gas will be enough for everyone,” user umar_bin_ibrahim wrote.
