Three Sochi policemen are figurants in criminal case

Sochi investigators have initiated a criminal case against three policemen, who, according to the investigators' version, had illegally detained with the use of force a local resident suspected of using narcotic drugs.

The case was opened against three policemen of the Sochi patrol-and-post service under the articles of abuse of power and service forgery, the Prosecutor's Office of the Krasnodar Territory reported on its Telegram channel on September 16.

On August 18, the defendants, having suspected a 40-year-old resident of Sochi of using drugs, used physical force and special means against him, after which they "placed him into a specially designated place for short-term detention of persons detained for committing administrative offenses, equipped with a metal grill." The policemen detained the man "without proper legal grounds" and illegally deprived him of his freedom, the Territorial Prosecutor's Office has stated. Besides, they drew up an "illegal administrative offense protocol on petty hooliganism" against the man, the report said.

The articles of the Criminal Code, imputed to the policemen, provide for the punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 10 years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to the following three years.
