CC upholds sentence for Chechen Djumaev

The Cassation Court (CC) has found no violations in the case of Said-Mukhammad Djumaev, a native of Chechnya, who was sentenced to five years in prison for using violence against law enforcers at a rally in Moscow. The CC has upheld the verdict.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 19, 2021, Mikail Markhiev, also known by his former name Said-Mukhammad Djumaev, was sentenced to five years in prison. A court in Moscow found him guilty of having clashed with law enforcers on January 23, 2021, at a rally in support of the opposition leader, Alexei Navalny*. On February 21, 2022, the court upheld the verdict.

The video circulated in social networks shows Djumaev fights off law enforcers' truncheons, while at first retreating towards protesters, defending himself with his hands and swinging his leg. Then, he was knocked to the ground, and Djumaev disappeared into the crowd. According to the prosecution, at the rally, Djumaev inflicted many blows on two law enforcers and a policeman.
