Rights defenders comment on reports about Chechen Tepsurkaev's murder

Salman Tepsurkaev's death was predefined after he read verses that insulted the mother of an influential republic's person, Ruslan Kutaev believes.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Tepsurkaev was killed in September 2020 and buried in an unmarked grave, but reports of his death appeared only this August.

In September 2020, the video depicting naked Tepsurkaev sitting on a bottle, explaining that he was doing this as punishment for cooperating with the 1Аdat* Telegram channel that criticized Chechen authorities, received a broad resonance.

Ruslan Kutaev, the President of the Assembly of Caucasian Nations, has noted that according to the Vainakh laws, no man has the right to discuss someone else's mother, sister or wife.

"This guy, apparently, had no intent to offend anyone. He was given the verses; and he read them without much thought," Mr Kutaev said, noting that the bullying that Salman was subjected to was out of the ordinary.

According to Kutaev, Tepsurkaev was used because of his youth and inexperience.

"He didn't even understand that he was being used so vilely, because the guy believed that he was involved in some big game," Musa Lomaev, a blogger, who lives in Finland, has commented on Tepsurkaev's death. He also warned Salman's widow against visiting Grozny, where she had been with her husband.

"Salman was tortured and humiliated for nine days. Apparently, during this time, the fantasy ran out; and they chose a relatively easy death for him," Musa Lomaev said, explaining that, according to his information, Tepsurkaev was blown up by a grenade.
