Azerbaijani MFA considers accusations of violation of trilateral agreement hypocritical

Official Baku reacted to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia, which accused Azerbaijan of violating the trilateral ceasefire agreement. The reason for the aggravation of the situation was the failure of the Armenian side to comply with the clause of the agreement on the withdrawal of troops, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan stated.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on August 3, the Armenian MFA associated the escalation on the border with the Azerbaijan’s attempts to unilaterally change the legal regime in the Lachin corridor. According to the Armenian MFA’s information, there is still no plan approved in a trilateral format (Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia), according to which a new traffic route should be laid along the Lachin corridor, providing communication between Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia.

Official Baku considered the accusations against Azerbaijan about the violation of the trilateral agreement of November 10, 2020 a “hypocrisy.” “Azerbaijan has repeatedly stated that Armenia has not fulfilled the provisions of the trilateral declaration, and so far the Armenian armed formations have not been withdrawn from the Azerbaijani territory,” the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in its commentary.

The Azerbaijani diplomats associate the aggravation of the situation with the presence in the region of “illegal Armenian armed groupings and their provocations.” “The provocation, which resulted in the death of an Azerbaijani soldier on August 3, is precisely the result of the Armenia’s failure to fulfil its obligations,” the Azerbaijani MFA’s document notes.
