Rostov-on-Don resident fined for discrediting militaries

A court in Rostov-on-Don has imposed a fine on Oleg Popovkin, a local resident, finding him guilty of discrediting Russian militaries after he posted his commenting on Chechens in Ukraine in the "VKontakte" social network. This is Popovkin's second administrative punishment for a social network post.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that earlier in May, Popovkin was sentenced to five days of arrest after his comment in the social network was treated as inciting hatred towards Russian militaries.

According to the human rights project "OVD-Info"*, experts have concluded that Popovkin's comments contain a negative assessment of the Russian Armed Forces.

The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, is regularly reporting about sending volunteer detachments from Chechnya to the special operation. On July 25, he announced that another group of volunteers had flown from Grozny to the special military operation zone in Ukraine.

Oleg Popovkin has refused to plead guilty, explaining that he had mentioned colonial British troops in his posts as a reference, as he is fond of the history of Great Britain.
