Editor of "Our Way" oppositional newspaper arrested in Azerbaijan

Today, employees of the Azerbaijani Ministry of National Security (MNS) have arrested Mushfig Guseinov, section editor of the "Bizim Yol" (Our Way) oppositional newspaper.

Mr Guseinov criticized in his articles the economic policy of the government and wrote about corruption, the "Gazeta.Ru" informs.

The information about his arrest was disseminated by Bakhaddin Gaziev, editor-in-chief of the newspaper. According to him, the reasons of the arrest remain still unknown.

The "Caucasian Knot" has also informed that the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety (IRFS) of Azerbaijan had moved an initiative to hold another "Marathon" action for commemorating the name of the murdered journalist Elmar Guseinov.

On July 17, 2007, an action was held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, in memory of perished journalist Elmar Guseinov, editor-in-chief of the "Monitor" magazine.

Shakhbaz Khuduoglu, cofounder of the Elmar Guseinov Foundation, has noted in his presentation that, unfortunately, the murder of Elmar Guseinov remains still undisclosed.
