Instagram* users condemn awarding Grozny Mayor with "Sword of Victory" bearing Stalin's portrait

The commemorative "Sword of Victory" with engraved Stalin's portrait was presented to the Mayor of Grozny in connection with the fact that the capital of Chechnya has the title of "City of Military Glory". Commentators were surprised by this news, recalling the Stalinist deportation of Vainakhs.

Khas-Magomed Kadyrov, the Grozny Mayor, received the "Sword of Victory" on June 10 in Moscow.

The swords are engraved with the "Order of Victory" and portraits of Russian commanders, says the website of the administration of Rostov-on-Don, the head of which has also received the symbolic award. It is noted that for the first time "Swords of Victory" were made in the city of Zlatoust in 1945, "when Joseph Stalin presented these awards to the leaders of the anti-Hitler coalition – to Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill."

The European Parliament treated the Stalin's deportation of Chechens and Ingushes to Central Asia and Siberia in 1944 as "genocide."

Let us note here that earlier Ramzan Kadyrov cursed Stalin for the repressions against Chechen nationals.
