Three prisoners support hunger strike of Talekh Bagirzade

On June 6, Abbas Guseinov and Djabbar Djabbarov, members of the “Muslim Unity” movement, and journalist Polad Aslanov, who are imprisoned in Azerbaijan, have begun a hunger strike in solidarity with Talekh Bagirzade.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on June 3, Talekh Bagirzade, the convicted leader of the “Muslim Unity” movement, went on a hunger strike. The activist demands to punish the law enforcers, who, according to supporters of the “Muslim Unity” movement, were blaspheming while torturing believers.

On January 25, 2017, Talekh Bagirzade, the MUM leader, and 17 of his supporters were sentenced to prison terms from 10 to 20 years on charges of organizing riots after the law enforcers' operation conducted in November 2015.

Gyulmira Aslanova, a spouse of journalist Polad Aslanov, reported that on June 6, her husband started a hunger strike in the penal colony No. 1 in solidarity with Talekh Bagirzade.

“In addition to Polad, Djabbar Djabbarov, a member of the ‘Muslim Unity’ movement, who was convicted in the same case as Talekh Bagirzade, joined the hunger strike in the penal colony No. 1. They notified the colony’s administration with an official letter. Polad and Djabbar Djabbarov are protesting against torture in [law enforcement] agencies and demanding punishment for the law enforcers who insulted Allah,” Gyulmira Aslanova told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

Leyla Ismayilzade, a spouse of Talekh Bagirzade, reported that on June 6, Abbas Guseinov, a member of the “Muslim Unity” movement, began a hunger strike in the Gobustan prison together with her husband.
