Number of those who suffered at protests in Yerevan reaches 60

A total of 39 policemen and 21 demonstrators received traumas in clashes of law enforcers with opposition supporters in Yerevan, the Armenian Ministry of Public Health has informed. The reason for such a large number of victims could be in the use of stun grenades with an expired shelf life, the opposition asserts.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since April 25, the Armenian opposition has been holding protest actions. On June 3, in Yerevan, law enforcers used stun grenades against protesters: 42 people received traumas; later their number went up to 50. After the protests, 11 activists were detained.

A source from the Ministry of Public Health has clarified that 39 victims are policemen, and 21 are protest activists.

The use of stun grenades with the expired shelf life could lead to a large number of victims, Arsen Babayan, a member of the "Motherland" Party, has stated. Since 2017, "Svirel" model stun grenades have not been purchased, while their shelf life is four years, Mr Babayan wrote in his social network page.

Stun grenades can only be used on the written order of the head of the police, he has added.
