Police stop activist's picket in Sochi

Anna Goretskaya went out to a picket near the Sochi branch of the "Edinaya Rossiya" (United Russia) Party and was detained by policemen.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 26, a court in Krasnodar found the dentist Vitaly Nikolaev, who had held a pacifist picket, guilty of discrediting Russian militaries and imposed a fine of 30,000 roubles on him.

On May 26, in Sochi, policemen detained Anna Goretskaya, a solo picketer. The young woman stood at the local branch of the "Edinaya Rossiya" Party with a poster in which she reminded that the city of Mariupol was destroyed during the special operation, and that it was equal in population to Sochi, the "OVD-Info"* project reported on May 26.

After detention, Anna Goretskaya was released without drawing up a protocol.

The "Caucasian Knot" has also reported that residents of the Krasnodar Territory are periodically holding pacifist actions and are punished under the articles about discrediting Russian militaries and spreading fake news about them. Thus, on May 24, it became known that the Tsentralny District Court of Sochi convicted a local resident, Sergey Sokolov, under the article on discrediting Russian militaries and fined him by 30,000 roubles for a pacifist comment on social networks. The Pervomaisky District Court fined a local resident, Nadezhda Sazanova, by the same amount under a similar article in Krasnodar; according to investigators, she took part in a pacifist action held in Theatre Square on March 31.

*The project has been included by the Russian Ministry of Justice into the roster of unregistered public associations acting as a foreign agent.
