KChR residents commemorate victims of the Caucasian War

In Cherkessk, the capital of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR), more than 500 people took part in the mourning march and rally dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Caucasian War. Clergymen prayed in memory of those who perished during the war; and activists and local deputies urged not to repeat this tragedy and stressed the republic's unity on the Circassians' (Adygs') Remembrance Day.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the authorities of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic refused to sanction the mourning march requested by the initiative group to be held in Nalchik on May 21 in memory of the victims of the Caucasian War. Social network users have treated this ban as encroachment on Adygs' (Circassians') traditions.

Ali Aslanov, the chairman of the NGO "Adyge Khase-Circassian Parliament", has treated the events that happened to the Circassian nationals during the Caucasian War as a huge tragedy and stressed that only one tenth of the people remained at home as a result of all this. "The rest perished from hunger, cold and diseases, or were scattered around the world," Mr Aslanov has recalled.

According to his story, about 500 people took part in the march.
