Activists stop hunger strike in Yerevan

Nver Kirakosyan and Arthur Avagyan, who had gone on a hunger strike in order to draw Armenians' attention to the problem of Nagorno-Karabakh status, have stopped their action. They intend to continue their struggle by other methods.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 17, Arthur Vanetsyan, the leader of the "Airenik" Party, and his supporters announced a round-the-clock protest action in Yerevan. Messrs Kirakosyan and Avagyan joined them and went on a hunger strike. On April 20, the "5165" Party held a march against the attempts to change the Karabakh status. On April 21, the hunger-strikers collected almost a thousand signatures of their supporters.

Nver Kirakosyan has stated that their mission "can be said to have been fulfilled." According to his story, many different people came up to them during these days. They discussed this problem; and everyone had the same demand: "Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh, – note of the "Caucasian Knot") should not be part of Azerbaijan," Mr Kirakosyan has concluded.
