Alleged supporter of IS* detained in Stavropol

A supporter of the “Islamic State”* from Stavropol planned to commit a terror act at a railway station, and elements of an explosive device were seized from his place, the FSB reported.

Today, the Centre for Public Relations of the FSB of Russia has reported that the FSB detained in Stavropol a local resident, a supporter of the international terrorist organization “Islamic State”* who was planning to commit a terror act on one of the transport infrastructure facilities.

The suspect was detained while he was preparing to commit a terrorist act. “Explosives and strike elements purchased by him for the manufacture of IEDs (improvised explosive devices, – note of the ‘Caucasian Knot) were found and seized,” the FSB reports on its official website. Investigators have launched an investigation into a criminal case on an attempted terror act, the report states.

The FSB also released a video of the suspect’s detention and interrogation. In the video, two FSB officers handcuff a man who is lying on the ground and then lead him into a car. Then, the video shows a five-litre bottle seized from the suspect, nails, electrical tape, syringes, saltpetre, glue, sealant, acetone, self-tapping screws, and sugar, the TASS reports.

During the interrogation, the detainee said that he intended to activate a bomb at the railway station.

* The organization was recognized as extremist by the decision of the Supreme Court (SC) of Russia and its activities on the territory of Russia are prohibited.
