Mikhail Saakashvili announces results of his examination at a Tbilisi clinic

In Tbilisi, doctors of a civilian clinic examined Mikhail Saakashvili and confirmed the diagnosis with serious illnesses found by doctors of the council, the former president of Georgia himself reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that his personal doctor is not allowed to visit Saakashvili, who had held a long hunger strike after returning to Georgia. This violates the detainee's rights, his advocate is sure. On February 21, Saakashvili went on another endless hunger strike demanding to ensure his proper medical treatment.

“The medical examinations performed have fully confirmed the diagnosis of various councils that while being kept at the penitentiary institutions of Georgia I fell ill with neuropathy: that means a person does not feel limbs and different parts of the body,” said the politician as quoted by the TASS.

Besides, according to Mikhail Saakashvili, doctors diagnosed him with Wernicke’s encephalopathy, which is expressed in impaired coordination and causes memory loss. The doctors considered it necessary to start a course of treatment immediately. They warned that in case of no treatment the patient would become disabled or die and said that a full recovery in prison was impossible, Mikhail Saakashvili said.

After being examined at the clinic, Mikhail Saakashvili was returned to prison. His advocate Shota Tutberidze noted that the studies carried out could not be considered complete, but they confirmed the diagnosis announced by the doctors of the council, the “News-Georgia” reports today.

“This means only one thing: if the authorities and the Penitentiary Service do not take into account the advice of doctors, then in the end we will come to the result that we have been talking about for a long time,” the “News-Georgia” quoted Shota Tutberidze as saying.
