"Azadlyg" newspaper awaiting provocations from Azerbaijani authorities

Next week, the Azerbaijani Commission for Complaints of the Council for Press will consider the application of Ali Akhmedov, deputy chair and executive secretary of the Party "Eni Azerbaijan" (PEA), concerning a publication in the "Azadlyg" newspaper, which "had encroached on the honour of the President." Aflatun Amashov, Chairman of the Council for Press, informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent about it.

According to Mr. Amashov, presently the members of the Commission are examining the problem. He has noted that the Council for Press will consider the application and make a decision. The application submitted by A. Akhmedov runs that the "Azadlyg" opposition newspaper dated May 15 published the article "The Alievs Bribed 90 Million for Oil Contracts," which had assaulted the honour and dignity of the President of the country.

In their turn, the editorial board of the "Azadlyg" newspaper made comments on the forthcoming discussions at the Council for Press, noting that the authorities were preparing a "bloody provocation" against the newspaper.
