HRC "Memorial"* appeals against court ruling on liquidation

The defence has filed an appeal against the decision of the Moscow City Court (MCC) to liquidate the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial"*.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 28, 2021, the Supreme Court (SC) of Russia satisfied the claim of the Russian General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) for the liquidation of the "International Memorial"*; and a day later, the MCC ruled to liquidate the HRC "Memorial"*.

An appeal has been filed against the MCC's decision dated December 29, 2021, on the liquidation of the HRC "Memorial"*, the "Interfax" reported on February 14, citing Mikhail Biryukov, an advocate. The defence asked to cancel the liquidation ruling, as it treats this sanction as disproportionate, he has explained, adding that the complaint also states that the HRC "Memorial"* had eliminated all the violations of the law long before the lawsuit was filed by the GPO.

The "Caucasian Knot" has also reported that on January 28, the defence of the "International Memorial"* appealed against the liquidation thereof. In the appeal, advocates gave six reasons for overturning the decision. The Russia's SC has scheduled the hearing of the appeal for February 28.
