Azerbaijan hands eight POWs over to Armenia

Eight military servicemen, including those taken prisoner of war (POWs) on November 16, 2021, have been returned to Armenia, the Azerbaijani State Commission for POWs has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after the armed clashes on the border on November 16, 2021, Azerbaijan returned 26 captured soldiers and one civilian to Armenia. By January 17, six servicemen remained in captivity.

In response to the return of the POWs, Baku expects from Armenia information about the Azerbaijani militaries and civilians who perished in the Armenian-Azerbaijani war back in the early 1990s and, probably, were buried in mass graves, as well as about the places of such burials.

The above State Commission has clarified that this issue was raised on February 4 by Ilham Aliev at his meeting with the French President, Emmanuel Macron, Charles Michel, the President of the European Council of the European Union and Nikol Pashinyan, the Armenian Prime Minister.

According to Mr Aliev, a total of 3890 Azerbaijani citizens went missing during the first Karabakh war, including 71 children, 267 women and 326 elderly people.
