Azerbaijani MoD claims shelling of its positions on Armenian border

At night, Armenian military shelled, from small firearms and large-calibre machine guns, the positions of the Azerbaijani Army stationed in the Kelbadjar and Tovuz Districts, the Azeri Ministry of Defence (MoD) has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 11, the Azerbaijani MoD announced the death of its military serviceman in the Kelbadjar District as a result of shelling from the Armenian side. In its turn, the Armenian MoD has also accused Azerbaijan of shelling, reporting the death of two and wounding of two more soldiers. Later, the Armenian MoD announced a resumption of hostilities on the Azerbaijani border.

On January 12, units of the Armenian Armed Forces shelled, from their positions stationed in the village of Yukhary Shordja of the Basarkechar District (the Gegarkunik Region of Armenia, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"), the positions of the Azerbaijani Army from small firearms and large-calibre machine guns in the direction of the villages of Zailik, Yellidja, Kelbadjar District, the Azeri MoD has reported.

Also, from the positions in the direction of the villages of Chinarly and Mugandjyg of the Shamshaddin District (the Tavush Region of Armenia, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"), Azerbaijani positions were shelled in the direction of the dwelling settlements of Mundjuglu, Agbulag, Gosha, Kokhanabi and Asrik Djyrdakhan of the Tovuz District.

The Azerbaijani MoD called the shelling "a deliberate provocation and a military adventure," adding that in all cases, the Azerbaijani Army units gave an adequate response.
