Nagorno-Karabakh authorities call on Baku to stop attacking civilians

Near the city of Shushi, stones were thrown from the Azerbaijani side on a car with civilians; this was the fourth incident within the day in border districts, the Nagorno-Karabakh police have informed. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and the Ombudsperson of the unrecognized republic have demanded from Azerbaijani authorities to stop incidents and remove troops from village vicinities.

On January 10, the Nagorno-Karabakh Ministry of Defence (MoD) reported that Azerbaijani militaries opened fire in the direction of the village of Karmir Shouka (Red Bazar) in the Martuni District, as a result of which a civilian's car caught fire. Baku called this message a lie. The Azerbaijani militaries also shelled firefighters in the village of Karmir Shouka, the Karabakh MIA has reported. Then, residents of the Nakhichevanik village in the Askeran District complained about the intense fire opened by Azerbaijani militaries.

On January 10, a statement was received that in the Stepanakert-Goris highway, near the city of Shushi, Azerbaijanis threw stones at the car of an Armenian driver with civilians, Unan Tadevosyan, the head of the press service of the MIA of Nagorno-Karabakh, has stated. The people in the car were not injured.

According to Mr Tadevosyan, on January 10, Azerbaijan staged four provocations against Nagorno-Karabakh civilians; three provocations were violations of the ceasefire regime.

The persecution of civil communities by Azerbaijan is an encroachment on the rights of the population, primarily on the right to life, the office of the Nagorno-Karabakh Ombudsperson stated on the Facebook.
