Leaders of Ingush protests sentenced to long prison terms

The court in the Stavropol Territory has sentenced Akhmed Barakhoev, Musa Malsagov, Malsag Uzhakhov, Ismail Nalgiev, Bagaudin Khautiev, Barakh Chemurziev and Zarifa Sautieva to prison terms from 7.5 to 9 years.

The prosecution demanded to sentence Akhmed Barakhoev, Musa Malsagov and Malsag Uzhakhov to nine years in prison, and Ismail Nalgiev, Bagaudin Khautiev and Barakh Chemurziev – to eight years in prison. For Zarifa Sautieva, the prosecutor asked for 7.5 years in prison. The court has satisfied these demands.

"What do you want from this judge? Should they have asked more, he would have given more," said Akhmed Barakhoev after the verdict was announced.

Magomed Bekov, an advocate, said that the defence will appeal against the verdict.

Barakh Chemurziev pointed out to the court the gaps in the investigation; and Malsag Uzhakhov treated the criminal prosecution of Ingush activists as ordered and falsified.
