Armenia and Azerbaijan exchange accusations of border attacks

The Armenian side accumulated additional forces near the state border and shelled the positions of Azerbaijani troops in the Kelbadjar District, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Azerbaijan reported. Its Armenian counterpart claims to have repulsed an attack of Azerbaijani soldiers.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that shootouts near the border between the Kelbadjar District of Azerbaijan and the Gegarkunik District of Armenia have been taking place every day since December 8. On that day, Azerbaijan reported the death of its soldier, and on December 9, Armenia announced that two of its soldiers were wounded.

According to the MoD of Azerbaijan, units of the Armenian armed forces have accumulated additional forces and military vehicles near the border and have committed “another provocation” today. “Starting from 12:00 a.m., the enemy tried to keep under fire the positions of the Azerbaijani army stationed in the Kelbadjar District. The enemy was suppressed as a result of the retaliatory measures immediately taken by the Azerbaijani army units,” the MoD of Azerbaijan reports on its official website.

The Ministry of Defence of Armenia claims that the Azerbaijani troops launched the attack. “As a result of the retaliatory actions of the Armenian side, the enemy suffered losses of manpower and was thrown back to the original positions,” the Ministry of Defence of Armenia announces on its official website.
