Protesters detained near Armenian parliament

Relatives of the militaries missing in action during the war in Nagorno-Karabakh blocked a street in the centre of Yerevan. The police pushed them back. Ten people were detained during the protest action.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on December 7, a protest action began in Yerevan. The protest was provoked by the statement of Alen Simonyan, the speaker of the Armenian Parliament, who announced that many of the prisoners of war (POWs) were deserters.

Today, relatives of the prisoners of war (POWs) and the militaries missing in action have blocked Demirchyan Street adjacent to the building of the Armenian Parliament. The traffic along the street was paralyzed for about half an hour, and then the police used force to push the protesters back.

The protesters intended to block Bagramyan Avenue as well, but the police prevented that.

The protesters demand from Alen Simonyan either to receive a delegation of 20 protestors, or to go out to them and explain what he wanted to say by his statement, protester Arsen Gasparyan told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

The “Caucasian Knot” correspondent has been informed by the press service for the Armenian police that during the protest action, ten people were brought to police stations.
