Salekh Rustamov complains about unbearable pain

Activist Salekh Rustamov, who has been on hunger strike for the 25th day in a prison hospital, complains about joint pain and plans to refuse water. According to doctors, the refusal of water can provoke a coma. When answering the prisoner’s requests to help him, the Russian diplomatic mission noted that Salekh Rustamov had received Russian citizenship without refusing the citizenship of Azerbaijan.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on November 6, Salekh Rustamov, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), went on hunger strike in protest against the fact that he was not affected by the amnesty. On the 23rd day of the hunger strike, a brother of Salekh Rustamov said that the prisoner could not move.

Salekh Rustamov is a citizen of Russia. On February 27, the court sentenced him to seven years and three months of imprisonment. Advocates said that the defendant was tortured.

The health state of Salekh Rustamov continues to deteriorate, his advocate Bakhruz Bairamov notes.

Alina Zolotaryova, the chief of the press service for the Russian Embassy in Azerbaijan, explains that Salekh Rustamov is a citizen of Azerbaijan. Being on the territory of Azerbaijan, he is under the jurisdiction of Azerbaijan, and this is an internal affair of the country.

The Norwegian Helsinki Committee repeated on Facebook a call to release Salekh Rustamov.

Social media users are reposting banners calling to free Salekh Rustamov, and activists are posting leaflets in Baku and other cities. Azerbaijani political migrants hold protest actions in front of the country’s embassies.

Advocate Bakhruz Bairamov notes that the authorities do not respond to numerous calls to release Salekh Rustamov.
