Armenia announces stabilization of situation on Azerbaijani border

The situation on the eastern section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, where the shootout took place on November 14, has stabilized, the parties are negotiating, the Armenian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 14, Armenia and Azerbaijan blamed each other of shelling at the border. According to Yerevan, Azerbaijani militaries tried to take positions on the border. In its turn, Azerbaijan stated that Armenian soldiers had shelled the military positions stationed in three villages of the Kelbadjar District (the Armenian name is the Karvachar District, – note of the "Caucasian Knot").

"The situation on the eastern part of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, where Azerbaijani militaries had tried to advance, has relatively stabilized; there are no shots," the Armenian MoD has stated on the Facebook.

Let us remind you that on November 15, Azerbaijani militaries set up a customs post on the Kapan-Chakaten road. These actions led to the violation of the rights of local residents, the Armenian Ombudsperson has stated. According to the head of the Chakaten community, because of the above post, residents of six villages of the Syunik Region must either cross the border or take a detour along a 150-kilometre long road. Villagers may have problems with buying foodstuffs, the Ombudsperson has added.

On November 111, Azerbaijan has also notified Armenia that it will set up a similar customs post on the section of the Goris-Kapan highway. The Armenian party announced that it will set up its own checkpoint there.
